SCORPION

Film photography – darkroom print, drawing made by scratching the paper emulsion 12x16cm 2018. Work is made due to the visual association of uterus and scorpion. After finishing the work I looked through symbols of scorpion where I found the connection between these two through history and myths. (1) as a daytime animal, symbolizes maternal self-denial and sacrifice because as the legend says his young breakthrough his womb and devour his inside before they go out into the world. (2) in Maya's glyptics is used as a symbol of penance and bleeding. For Dogon people it is also associated with surgical operations: it is actually a removed clitoris. (3.) That Birth (Birth of Twins) repeats the birth of the first woman and turning her clitoris into a scorpion.
